It is true that the idea of Indonesia was initiated by boarders. The name or concept was searched for together between young people who were boarding in the Netherlands and in the Dutch East Indies, finally finding the idea of "Indonesia" and fighting for it until independence. This is what inspired the birth of this architecture book, a book that discusses the design of boarding houses.

This book was created especially for students or young architects who want to explore the intricacies of boarding houses. Designing a boarding house that is not a big project still has to be professional and earnest, cherished and grateful, so that we can provide greater benefits to other humans.

This book can also be read by the community at large, especially those who want to do the boarding house business. Moreover, the book also includes an interview with a progressive boarding house owner, who appreciates the importance of hiring an architect to build a boarding house, in order to realise a boarding house that suits your needs.

This book highlights boarding houses from an urban perspective, from the architecture of the archipelago and from building science. These three things are quite important as a consideration in designing boarding houses, especially those in cities in Indonesia. The case in this study is Rumah Kos Volume 1 to 6, which is the work of andyrahman architect and is located in a housing complex in Keputih, East Surabaya.

In addition, there are still 7 (seven) other boarding house designs by andyrahman architect. These seven boarding houses are spread across various cities in Indonesia, and are contemporary boarding houses designed contextually, adjusting to the potential and real conditions in each city.
